Snowshoe Race

The Sandwich Sidehillers Winter Trail Club will be hosting the White Mountain Milers Snowshoe Race on Saturday, January 26th at 11:00 a.m.  The start/finish line is on Quimby Field behind the Center Sandwich Post Office. This race is a qualifying race for national snowshoe racing, but is open to any skill level.  The course is 4 miles long and is run through Sandwich Fairgrounds, into the woods to some hilly, challenging terrain, then back to the finish line. The snowshoes used are much smaller than regular deep-snow snowshoes, yet make for a difficult, snow-flying run.  Competitors often include top ranking runners, snowshoe racing enthusiasts, as well as novices and brave winter lovers who have never put on snowshoes before.  The trail is maintained and prepared by the Sandwich Recreation Department and the Sandwich Sidehillers.  Road crossings are manned by volunteers, and anyone interested in helping out should contact the Sidehillers at [email protected] or check out .   Racers can register the morning of the race from 9:30 – 10:30 and racing snowshoe rentals are available at the start.  Please come out to race, volunteer to help with the course, or just watch this exciting event.
