Spectator Information

Race activities begin Friday, February 19, 2010, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Sandwich Central School with the family-style (and priced) spaghetti supper put on by the Sandwich PTO. This will be followed by the "Mushers’ Meeting" at 7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The Race start and finish line will be at Floyd’s Field on Bennett Street in North Sandwich, NH. (See the "Directions" link for details.) The Bennett Street Cafe will be open until 3pm!  The Race will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010. Parking will be available close to where the Mushers will park with their dogs. The Sandwich Sidehillers will sponsor the "Bennett Street Café", where hot food and drinks will be available for purchase. Programs will be available for a nominal charge that will include a map of the course, a listing of the mushers’ names and their hometowns, and a listing of the generous sponsors who make this race possible.

Other than the start/finish line, three other major viewing areas easily accessible by car will be:

1. Rte. 113A in North Sandwich where all teams will cross the road. All road crossings are marked and staffed by volunteers.

2. The halfway checkpoint will be in the Wonalancet Intervale further north/east on Rte. 113A (Chinook Trail). This scenic vista is featured in many pictures and includes views of the mountains with the beautiful Wonalancet Chapel in the background. The trail at this point courses the perimeter of a large hayfield that is right next to Rte. 113A for quite a distance, and parking will be available.

3. On the Sandwich end of the race course, the 45-mile teams will turn around to head back to the Finish Line on the east side of Mount.Israel Road in Center Sandwich.

These road crossings and the entire course can be viewed on the map that will be included in the Race Program. Race watchers on skis, snowshoes or snowmobiles will be rewarded with backcountry views as well as beautiful winter trails.
