Sled Dog Race Cancelled

The Race Committee met this morning and had to make the unfortunate decision to cancel this year’s Sandwich Sled Dog Race scheduled for Saturday, February 18,2012. Although some trails are fine, there is just not enough snow over the entire course and not enough in the forecast. Thank you to mushers who have already registered (we will send refunds out promptly) and especially to all the volunteers, many of whom have already done so much planning and coordinating. There’s always next year! We have already scheduled next year’s Race for Saturday, February 16, 2013.

Sandwich Sled Dog Race

Warm temps., rain, sleet, ice and more ice! We are still hoping for more snow so that we can hold the Sandwich Sled Dog Race, sponsored by the Sandwich Sidehillers Winter Trail Club on Saturday, February 18th at 9:00 a.m. The annual Musher’s Supper will be held on Friday night before the Race at the Sandwich Central School at 5:30 p.m. We already have mushers registered and plans are rapidly moving forward. Dog teams will start heading out at 9am at the start/finish line at Floyd’s Field on Bennett Street in North Sandwich. Warm food and drinks will be available there at the “Sidehillers Cafe”. We need more snow, but we also need volunteers!! Please consider becoming involved with this local winter tradition by helping out in the Sidehillers Cafe, hosting a musher, working on trails as a crossing attendant, helping to manage parking and logistics, or any of the hard work that it takes to put on this event. Snowshoe Race Cancelled

Unfortunately, the weather has not been cooperating, and the snowshoe race has been cancelled. Thanks to Leland Yee, and all the other voluteers who had offered to help with this race. Hoping for next year….

January 28 Snowshow Race

Hi Sidehillers,
Volunteers are needed for the January 28 snowshoe race. We need people to work the road crossing, keeping the snow on the road in good shape for the racers and managing traffic. The time period is, roughly, 10:15 to 12:45. The race itself will start at 11 AM. If shoveling snow doesn’t appeal to you, you can help at the start line, direct runners out on the course, serve soup, or direct people to parking. End of November Trailwork and meeting

Sorry for any confusion, but the Saturday trail work mentioned in the minutes referred to the Saturday after the meeting, November 19th. At this point, trails are too muddy to be able to do much, and we won’t be going out in any organized fashion until we can access the trails by snowmobile. Meeting & Trailwork

Hi everyone,
Just a reminder that the monthly meeting of the Sandwich Sidehillers will be Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7:00 p.m. at the Clubhouse on Wing Road. The meeting is a week early this month because of Thanksgiving. All are welcome!!
There will be no trailwork this Saturday, or the following Saturday after Thanksgiving. I will keep everyone posted on any later dates. Thank you so much to all the volunteers who have worked so hard for the last month clearing trails, building bridges and getting trails ready for winter. Thank you also to Mike Morton and Ben Fullerton for their generous contributions of machine time and operation!

Hi Sidehillers,
Attached are the minutes from the October meeting. Please note that the November monthly meeting will be early (November 17th) because of Thanksgiving.
Trail work has been really productive for the last 4 weeks. Both Mike Morton and Ben Fullerton have generously helped out by bringing in equipment to work on trails, lots of volunteers have come and worked (although we can always use more!!) and great progress has been made. There will be trail work again this Saturday. We will meet at the Clubhouse at 8:00 a.m. Please join us if you can!
The new batch of sweatshirts are in, and so many people have expressed an interest that Adam and I are losing track! If you have ordered one, please get in touch with me by email or call Adam at 651-8091 to arrange to get them to you.

November 5th Trailwork

Hi Everyone,
We will be doing another fun-filled trailwork session this Saturday morning, November 5th. We will plan on meeting at the Clubhouse on Wing Road at 8:00 a.m. and, depending on the number of people who show up, will head out from there. Lunch will be served back at the Clubhouse around 12:30 or so. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
